After attending twenty hours of the Technical communication module TLM1010 here is a reflection of some of the assignments done and what I have learned. In these 10 weeks some of the assigments done are writing thesis, problem and purpose statements and support these statement with evidence, applying APA citation style, writing summaries with paraphrases and presenting ideas to further improve a product.
From attending classes and doing group projects I got to know my fellow classmates better by working with different groups of people.Attending the TLM1010 class is enjoyable and I felt it is a break from studying a enginnering module.Though the classes were fun and enjoyable I felt that this module could be further extended to more than twenty hours as the some of the assigments given within these ten weeks could be done better if it were stretched over a longer period of time.
One of the more memorable experince I got from this module would be the sales pitch assigment.By doing this presentation and obtaining genuine feedback from both instructor and peers I learned that so much could be improved on my presentaion skills, such as depending lesser on slides while presenting and putting in a little more enthusiasm into the sales pitch.I enjoyed watching my fellow classmates giving their sales pitch and learned from their presentation skills. I will try to improve on my future presentaions by putting these feedbacks into action.
Overall I enjoyed attending the Technical communication module classes and will apply the writing and presenting skills learned from this module into future work.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As concerns over
road safety in Singapore have increased over the years due to a rise in road
accidents, rearview cameras are gaining popularity among motorists. Rearview
cameras like Garmin BC 30 can be further improved to alleviate the rise in road
accidents in Singapore. This report discusses the current Garmin BC 30 and
identifies areas of improvement through proposing adaptations to the current
product as well as discussing the benefits of these adaptations.
During the primary
and secondary research conducted, it was identified that the current Garmin BC
30 is lacking similar offerings by competitors in terms of features and functions.
To work on the problem of inadequate product features, this report proposes improvement
and new enhancement to Garmin BC 30 to expand on its functionalities so that
the product can better serve the needs of users.
While the
proposed adaptations to the current Garmin BC 30 through an “all in one Garmin
BC 30” will greatly benefit Garmin in terms of an increased in sales, the
proposed adaptation has its drawbacks as well. An evident drawback would be the
cost needed to develop and maintain the mobile application to create an “all in
one Garmin BC 30”. However, as the benefits of the proposed adaptation far
exceeds the cost incurred, it is advisable to implement the proposed
adaptations to the current Garmin BC 30.
As a result, this
report aims to convince Garmin stakeholders that the expansion on Garmin BC
30’s existing features is vital in improving customer’s satisfaction of the
product and thus, the sales of the product.

Dear Mr. Blackstone
Proposal for
improvement to Garmin BC 30
In response to
your letter of authorization dated September 30, 2016, it is our pleasure to
present you our proposal for improvement to Garmin BC 30 wireless backup
camera.
As concerns over
road safety in Singapore has increased over the years due to a rise in road
accidents, rearview cameras are gaining popularity among motorists. According
to the Road Traffic Accident Casualties annual statistic released by Department
of Statistic Singapore, total motor vehicle drivers and passenger cars casualties injured in road accidents increased from 2,686 cases in
2014 to 2,746 in 2015. Rearview cameras like Garmin BC 30 can be further
improved to alleviate the rise in road accidents in Singapore. With this, our
team proposes new enhancement to Garmin BC 30 wireless backup camera to make
the product more effective in reducing road accidents.
It is our
pleasure to undertake this assignment. We would like to thank you for taking
time off your busy schedule to read through the proposal and hope that this
proposal will furnish you with the details on potential improvement to Garmin
BC 30.
Yours sincerely

Product Description Summary & Analysis Draft 3
The website “www.savvy-telematics.com/en/savvy-fleet-trac.html”
(n.d) introduces the
functionality, features, and benefits Savvy FleetTrac would provide when
used on trucks or other similar automobiles. Savvy FleetTrac is
a telematics device that produce information in real time to drivers for
analysis through the Internet. With features as “highly developed antenna technology” and
“GSM cell tracking” drivers can receive clear overview of their processes anywhere
via smart phone applications. The device is “optimized for quick installation”
and requires no external antennae. In unfavourable conditions functionality
of Savvy FleetTrac is ensured as the device uses very little power to operate.
The use of
telematics devices in trucks has continue to grow over time
mainly because the
process of data analysis is now possible through telematics.
The website ” savvy-telematics ”(n.d) states drivers are provided with information
instantaneously via a portal and connects it to a top
quality map with the
necessary metadata. This shows how connectivity provided
from Savvy FleetTrac
would be allow drivers to capitalise on the
usage of data. An application
of data analysis for drivers would be to avoid traffic congestion when
operating during night time schedules. This results in drivers benefiting from increased fuel economy.

According to the article “Telematics will change
trucks and
trucking” (
Kilcarr 2015), connectivity and opportunities created by data analysis is going
to change trucks and the trucking industry. Savvy FleetTrac
web portal can be accessed via mobile devices from anywhere and at any time,
this empowers
drivers to receive a clear overview of
processes and be able to monitor their
activities. Evidence of the use of telematics products into trucks
for data analysis would be to look at one of the largest global
courier delivery services,
United Parcel Service (UPS). The
article” Telematics Sensor-Equipped Trucks Help UPS Control
Costs” (Mika
2010) states, as drivers complete their routes
the UPS telematics equipment captures streams of data via a 900 MHz radio and
sends it in real-time to servers for analysis.
Savvy FleetTrac would
be a suitable telematics device to be used in trucks as it provides drivers
with the capability to do data analysis.

According to the article “Telematics will change trucks and trucking” by Sean Kilcarr 2015, connectivity and
opportunities created by data analysis is going to change trucks and the trucking industry. The easy to deploy Saavy FleetTrac telematics device would enhance connectivity for telematics in trucking with features as
“highly developed antenna technology” and“connecting truck drivers via smart phone applications”.
To ensure functionality through unfavourable conditions, the device uses very little power to operate.
Wallace Lau argued that “connectivity is the biggest enabler of a lot of potential benefits for this industry”.
Through connectivity drivers could capitalize the usage of data to avoid traffic congestion when operating

Formal Email Writing

From: Syafiq Bashir
Date: September 21, 2016
Subject: Syafiq’s self introduction
Dear Brad,
My name is Syafiq. I am currently studying telematics and i'm a student in your of Technical Communications TLM1010 class.I am writing to introduce and share a little bit more about myself.
I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic in 2014 with a diploma in Electronics ,Computer and Communications Engineering.I served national service from 2014 to 2016 in the army.
One of my favourite pastimes would be watching UFC which stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship.I enjoy observing the strategy that fighters use in order to overcome their opponents. To introduce and share a little misconception of fighting would be that the bigger and stronger person would always win.As a UFC fan I would say that the more skillful and better strategic fighter would most likely win.I also enjoy exercising by playing sports such as soccer and sepak takraw.
I chose to study Telematics as it is a relatively new and exciting field. My goal upon graduation will be to pursue a challenging and meaningful career that would have a positive impact on our society.
I look forward on attending the technical communication module classes as i believe it will improve my communication skills.
Yours Sincerely,
Syafiq Bashir
